The other day I came across a new article by Mike Cernovich: 40 Principles to Live By on my 40th Birthday.
It was really refreshing to see Mike write an article on self-improvement/lifestyle advice versus the politics he’s been into the last two years. So, I decided to tweet the article out and wish him a happy birthday. I wrote:
Hats off to @cernovich You’ve made a huge difference in the past few years–looking forward to the next 40!! “40 Principles to Live By on my 40th Birthday” by @Cernovich https://t.co/0RXQmiH8SY

Nothing too special. It was genuine though as I really have appreciated his work. Then, he liked my tweet. As someone who currently has 371,000 followers a like can go a long way. And it did. My tweet has 269 likes and 55,000 impressions. I also picked up around 20 followers.
A few days later I ended up at Cernovich’s Wikipedia page. The description of him was pathetic, and showed that Wikipedia is clearly biased. I know, I know–Wikipedia is edited by its users, but still, the fact that Wikipedia can be used as a platform for “fake news” and misinformation is sad.
This is how Wikipedia describes @Cernovich —what a joke!
“Mike Cernovich is an American alt-right social media personality, writer, and conspiracy theorist. His website “Danger & Play” started in 2012 and was originally known mainly for its content on men’s empowerment.”

That tweet was even more popular, garnering about 84,000 impressions.
The key takeaway here is to reach out to big names on Twitter. Write something unique, not just generic comments.
One way to reach these guys is to write about them! That is actually a technique from Cernovich coincidentally.
